Jeff Hirst - Bold Territory- Experimental Drawing

Bold Territory- Experimental Drawing

Jeff Hirst

Hirst Chicago Studio

June 22 - 25, 2026

10. - 4 PM

Class is limited to 7 participants.

Hirst, Planet Path, mixed media on paper, 22” x 14”

This will be a shared studio environment where everyone is actively engaged in the process of making. I plan to make work alongside the participants and I will be fully available to help brainstorm, problem-solve, and offer guidance.  With only 7 participants, there’ll be plenty of room to be as expansive as you want in your “Laboratory” explorations of Experimental Drawing!

Participants will work with both traditional and nontraditional materials to create work ranging from quick studies to fully developed pieces. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation, personal vision, and risk-taking, without concern for literal likeness or representation.

Artists will engage a wide range of methods and materials—including cardboard, charcoal, graphite, water media, ash, carborundum, plaster, building materials, ink, R&F Drawing Sticks, and collage—to create work that reflects each individual’s aesthetic interests and artistic direction. Monotype printing processes will be incorporated, encouraging unpredictability and discovery while opening pathways to new possibilities. Because the class is small, participants will have the opportunity to print both by hand and using the press. Daily drawing exercises will foster creative thinking and intuitive, subconscious exploration, which may be integrated into more resolved works. The overall aim of the class is to build, develop, and realize new drawings while engaging in a playful, exploratory, and generative creative process.
