Gel Plate Printmaking is a 4-day workshop taught by Jeff Hirst: April 3-6, 2025.

The course will focus on layering imagery through multiple printings on the same image. Simple registration systems that allow artists to move freely between acrylic paint and R & F Handmade Paints will be covered in the class. While much technique will be covered, the emphasis is on making compelling images that expand each participant’s personal vision. The class will include prompts, and some transfer processes will be covered.

Topics Covered In This Class

• Create multi-layered gel prints

• Learn the process of "building a print"

• Develop many prints that reflect your personal vision or help you realize your vision

• Work with water-based media

• Work with oil-based media

• Understand easy registration systems

• Explore a variety of papers

Supply List

• (1) 8 x 10 Gelli Plate or similar Gel Plate

• (10) sheets of Stonehenge 22 x 30 250 gram

• 2-3" Brayers

• Acrylic Paint (I like Golden Fluid Acrylics): Benzimidazolone Yellow Light, Diarylide Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Cad Red Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Phtahlo Blue, Black, Burnt Umber, White Gel or Matte Medium or GAC 100. I really like GAC 100. It dries quickly.

• Disposable Gloves

• Baby Wipes

• 1 roll of Paper Towels

• An assortment of small to large brushes

• Painters Tape

• A 9" x 12" (or larger) sketchbook

• India ink

• Drawing tools (pencils, pens)

• (1) sheet of thin plexiglass 12" x 16” fro palettes - maybe you have palettes.

If YOU have to cancel: Refunds are not available unless we can rebook your place. Please note that the closer we get to the event, the less likely we will be able to find someone to replace you.

    •    If YOU cancel, but we can refill your spot: You will be refunded everything you have paid minus a $50 administrative fee.

    •    If WE have to cancel: We will refund everything you have paid.
