Printing with Akua Intaglio Ink

Location:  Guanajuato, Mexico.

Workshop Venue:  At the beautiful printmaking Estudio Piramidal

This unique class brings together two experienced printmakers to teach side by side. Together, Hugo and Jeff bring decades of printmaking experience and a shared passion for experimentation, innovation, and pushing the boundaries of the medium. Through demonstrations, discussion, and hands-on exploration, they encourage participants to expand their creative practice while discovering new possibilities in print.

In this printmaking workshop, artists will explore the following:

  • Three Color prints using various monoprint processes

  • Working with Tetra Pak plates that including building plates with an emphasis on collage

  • Carborundum plates and combining Tetra Pak and Carborundum

  • Drypoint processes

  • Viscosity Printing

  • Chine Colle

  • Various registration processes

The class will involve printing multiple plates that add to complex layers of visual information.

All images will be printed using Akua intaglio and liquid pigment inks. Artists will be exposed to transparent and opaque color relationships that add to richness to images. The class will cover multiple registration systems that make printing easy and accurate.

While much technical information is covered in the class, the overall emphasis is using the processes to reflect each artist's personal vision. Workshop participants will create, build, and re-build printing surfaces and imagery to explore personal direction while at the same time stretching individual boundaries.
